Fun Facts About The Promenade At The Foundry Building!

The Promenade (At The Foundry) Apartments are a landmark in the city of Providence. Living in this old city is like experiencing a piece of Providence’s rich history. Here, five fun facts about the Foundry building complex.
The original Foundry Building was erected in 1872, pioneered by the industrial global powerhouse Brown & Sharpe. At 66,000 square feet, the building housed a carpenter shop, machine shops, warehouses, a powerhouse, grinding shop, and steel storage bins. At this time, the Foundry Buildings sprawl over 26 acres, and has 9 historic buildings. In total, there is now more than 600,000 square feet.

Brown & Sharpe created many inventions within the Foundry’s walls, including the first automatic machine for graduating rules. The company still exists, though it has moved to Pawtucket.

When Antonio Guerra first purchased The Foundry Buildings in 1964, he originally rented out spaces for as little as 35 cents per square foot! Using that money, he redeveloped the first building in 1987.

For both residential and cooperate areas, the Foundry offers 10-foot windows, and free parking. It is also incredibly convenient to Routes I-195, I-95, I-295, 6, and 146. It is also walking distance to the Amtrak train station and bus routes.

95% of the Foundry Building is occupied by Fortune100 companies, and national and regional cooperations, such as Women and Infants Hospital, AT&T, and Northwest Mutual Life. There are also two delicatessens and coffee shops within the office buildings.
